On February 11, 2016, history was made: LIGO made the official announcement of the first ever detection of gravitational waves. The waves, generated by the collision of two black holes in a binary system, arrived on Earth in September 14, 2015. The official paper is published in Physical Review Letters, with a viewpoint by our own CENTRA member Emanuele Berti. Vitor Cardoso, a former LIGO member at Olemiss, discusses this achievement in Público. José Lemos, president of CENTRA, comments this historical date on TV Globo News as well as in an interview to radio Antena 2.
