O Prof. Alexei Kojevnikov é Professor Associado na University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canadá e um dos grandes especialista em História da Física. É autor de vários artigos e livros. Destacam-se, por exemplo, os livros "Stalin's Great Science - The Times and Adventures of Soviet Physicists" (London: Imperial College Press, 2004) e "Intelligentsia Science: The Russian Century, 1860-1960" (Chicago: University of Chicago Press, 2008).
Prof. Alexei Kojevnikov is an Associated Professor at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada and one of the world experts in History of Physics. He is also the author of several research articles and books, e.g. "Stalin's Great Science - The Times and Adventures of Soviet Physicists" (London: Imperial College Press, 2004) and "Intelligentsia Science: The Russian Century, 1860-1960" (Chicago: University of Chicago Press, 2008).
Nesta palestra o autor irá descrever o que a relatividade geral siginificava nesse período para a) um circulo restrito de especialistas; b) para a Física em geral e em particular para a relação entre Fisica Experimental e Física Teórica; e c) para o público em geral e os significados políticos e filosóficos associados a esta teoria.
In this talk the author will characterize what general relativity meant at the time a) for a narrow circle of experts; b) for the discipline of physics, in particular the relationship between theoretical and experimental physics; and c) for the perception of science by wider public, not necessarily scientists, and broader political and philosophical meaning associated with it.
