Twenty years of NASA space missions: Perspective of a Portuguese scientist

Oct. 15 - 14:30 - 2019

Speaker: Cristina Oliveira (Space Telescope Science Institute)

Title: Twenty years of NASA space missions: Perspective of a Portuguese scientist

Abstract: In this presentation, I will talk about my experience while involved with NASA astrophysics missions over the last 20 years - initially with the first NASA mission operated by a university (the Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer) and then with the Hubble Space Telescope, known all over the world. I will describe briefly the path that took me in this direction, discuss the most important discoveries so far, and talk about upcoming missions that will revolutionize our knowledge of the Universe.
