Force-free magnetospheres of black holes and neutron stars

Nov. 22 - 14:30 - 2018

Speaker: Federico Carrasco (Universitat de les Illes Balears)

Title: Force-free magnetospheres of black holes and neutron stars

Abstract: Force-free electrodynamics describes a particular regime of magnetically dominated relativistic plasmas, which arises on several astrophysical scenarios of interest such as pulsars or active galactic nuclei. In this talk, I will present a novel scheme to evolve the force-free equations in 3D, with particular emphasis on the treatment given to boundary conditions. Then, I will discuss our numerical results on different astrophysical settings: (I) jets from boosted and/or spinning black holes respect to uniformly magnetized plasma; (ii) spin-down luminosity in pulsars; (iii) plasmoid emissions and some other aspects of magnetars.
