How to simulate the atmosphere of different planets using (almost) similar numerical tools

May. 28 - 14:30 - 2018

Astro-technology seminar

Time: Monday, May 28, 2018, at 14:30

Location: FCUL, building C8, room 8.2.11

Speaker:

Dr. Gabriella Gilli (IA)

Abstract:

What kind of environment may exist on terrestrial planets around other stars? To reply to this challenging and fascinating question, a number of Global Climate Models have been developing within the scientific community. In this talk I will first describe briefly how those numerical tools work, focusing on my experience on Solar System terrestrial planets. Secondly, I will perform "interactively" with the audience 1-D simulations of the atmosphere of a given planet using an user-friendly on-line tool to discuss possile climate of known exoplanets.
