Abstract: Chaos is an emergent phenomenon in a wide variety of nonlinear scenarios, and we will demonstrate that the scalar field in AdS is no exception. In this talk we will focus on numerical evidences for the presence and properties of chaos in AdS. Due to the complexity of the system, it is impossible to predict, based only on the initial conditions, whether a black hole or a bound state will form. We conjecture that there is a characteristic time where chaos emerges from the system. We will compare it with the time that a system takes to collapse and obtain a feature that allows to predict the final state of the system.
