Recent results on the AdS instability problem

Oct. 13 - 14:30 - 2016

SPEAKER: Juan Pedraza (Amsterdam Univ.)

ABSTRACT: In this talk I will present a brief overview and discuss the current status of the AdS instability problem. In the first part of the talk I will focus on the gauge dependence of the two-time formalism (TTF). I will argue that the "oscillating singularity" found previously in the central gauge is actually gauge independent and, hence, signals a genuine breakdown of linearized gravity. In the second part of the talk I will discuss recent results of numerical simulations for a variety of initial conditions. Our results strongly support the idea that, in the limit of vanishing amplitude, the set of initial conditions that lead to collapse / non-collapse are both of non-zero measure.
