Electroweak vacuum stability and inflation via non-minimal derivative couplings to gravity

Nov. 06 - 14:30 - 2015

SPEAKER: Cristiano Germani (Universidade de Barcelona)

ABSTRACT: I will show that the Standard Model vacuum can be stabilised if all particle propagators are non-minimally coupled to gravity. This is due to a Higgs-background dependent redefinition of the Standard Model fields: in terms of canonical variables and in the large Higgs field limit, the quantum fluctuations that would destabilise the effective potentials are suppressed by the Higgs background. In this scenario the stabilised Higgs boson can act as inflaton.
