The application of elliptic functions to relativistic and classical celestial mechanics

Dec. 11 - 14:30 - 2014

SPEAKERS: Dario Izzo (ESA)-Francesco Biscani (Max Planck Institut für Astronomie)

ABSTRACT: In this talk we will first recall a few basic notions about the theory of elliptic functions and integrals using Weierstrass' formalism. We will then proceed to show how elliptic functions can be used to solve a wide array of problems in relativistic and classical celestial mechanics. In particular, we will present in detail a new perturbative solution to the problem of two spinning bodies in general relativity.
