The Carnegie Supernova Project (CSP) was a five-year observational survey conducted at the Las Campanas Observatory that obtained high-quality light curves and spectroscopy of 250 supernovae. I will present an overview of the CSP and results so far obtained. In doing so I will review the hierarchy of supernovae, and place in context our current understanding of exploding stars and their use as cosmological distance indicators.

Place: Physics Department Meeting Room, 2nd floor.
