Mass inflation: the non-linear development of the Cauchy horizon instability in black holes

The Cauchy horizon of charged or rotating black holes is known to be unstable. I shall discuss the phenomenon of mass inflation, corresponding to the non-linear development of this instability in four dimensional general relativity, as well as the effect of introducing a Brans-Dicke scalar field, changing the spacetime dimension and adding a cosmological constant.
