Denis Pollney

Denis Pollney, of the Universitat de les Illes Balears in Palma de Mallorca, visited us for some days. He gave a seminar to our group about gravitational wave fingerprints of binary black hole mergers.

Computation time at Milipeia

Our team (PI Helvi Witek) has been granted 100k CPU hours at the Milipeia cluster in Coimbra/ Portugal for the project “Dynamic black holes in generic spacetimes”.

UTL/Santander Totta Award

Vitor Cardoso was awarded the UTL/Santander Totta award for outstanding researcher in the Universidade Técnica de Lisboa. The official ceremony will take place in Dec.10, at IST Lisbon.

Luciano Rezzolla

Luciano Rezzolla, of the AEI in Potsdam, just visited us for a couple of days. Luciano delivered a very nice talk on using Numerical Relativity to explore fundamental physics and astrophysics.

ERC Starting Grant

Vitor Cardoso was awarded the prestigious ERC Starting Grant. This is a 5 year-long grant, consisting typically on a 1 to 2 Million Euro financing awarded by the European Research Council, for outstanding junior researchers in any research field in Europe.

Citation: ERC Starting Independent Researcher Grants aim to support up-and-coming research leaders who are about to establish or consolidate a proper research team and to start conducting independent research in Europe. The scheme targets promising researchers who have the proven potential of becoming independent research leaders. It will support the creation of excellent new research teams and will strengthen others that have been recently created.
